ABOUT / STUDIO / EST. 2018

A studio
of restraint.

BLACKWHITEGRAY is a fourteen-person studio in the 11th arrondissement of Paris. We make garments in three colours — black, white, and the long stretch of gray between them — and a chambray for the days that earn it. Since 2018.

The constraint is the work. With the palette small, every other decision becomes louder — the drape of a sleeve, the weight of a hem, the precise moment a garment begins to dissolve into the body that wears it. We work slowly. Twelve pieces a season. Each cut and sewn in family-run workshops in Italy, France, and Japan, by people whose names we know.

SECTION 02 / PRINCIPLES

Principles

Restraint.
We do not chase trend. We do not collaborate with brands. We make garments that are intended to outlast the conversation about them.
Provenance.
Every fibre is traceable to the animal or the field. Every stitch is sewn by a person whose hand we have shaken.
Patience.
A coat may take two years to develop. We release nothing we have not lived inside ourselves for at least one full season.

SECTION 05 / IN PRINT

"The most quietly radical thing happening in fashion right now is also the least visible — a discipline of restraint that has produced some of the most considered garments of the decade."
