Why we don't do colour

Why we don't do colour

We are not against colour.

Colour is one of the great gifts of the visible world, and the people who work with it well — Issey Miyake, Christopher Nemeth, Jil Sander in her first years — produce some of the most considered work in fashion.

We do not do colour because, when we tried, the colour became the conversation. The drape, the fit, the weight, the hand of the fabric — all of it disappeared behind the question of whether the green was the right green.

Removing colour returned the conversation to the garment.

That is the whole of it.
